The most important outcome we want students to gain is that there is no reason to feel pity for someone with a disability or think that because a person has a disability they are inferior to those that don’t. The Ability Awareness Program is designed to give students the opportunity to meet presenters with a disability who are thriving in life and learn Disability Awareness concepts from the presenters first-hand experiences with these concepts.

Concepts:

  • Appropriate Language
  • Attitude & Approach
  • Assumptions & Stereotypes
  • Accessibility & Accommodations

Activities

  • Presenters
  • Read-A-Loud
  • Performances
  • Art Exhibition
  • Assistive Technology Demos
  • Adaptive Sports Demos
